Knife Mold.

I bought this knife at the Kah nee ta Resort at the Warms Springs Indian Reservation gift shop in Oregon. I went back the next year just to purchase some more of this artist's work- but his work was no longer there. They didn't seem to know who he was or where his work was being shown. I tried a couple of other places near by- but couldn't find anyone who seemed to know anything about him. I had originally been told that he lived on the reservation. ??? Wish I knew his name or where to find his work. He had the most beautiful flintknapping I had ever seen.

Mold stuff: I got this from Biblical Impressions Stamps at a local stamping convention. It is called Make a Mold. Easy to use- gives a very detailed impression. Seems to take a lot of heat- they said you could bake polymer clays right in the mold. I've poured melted EPs into it and used it with hotglue. The molds seem impervious to heat. :)

The first replica is made with Sculpey. I painted the handle with acrylics- put an overglaze on it to darken the details. I mixed some white and yellow and brown for the main color. When it was dry,I used brown with glazing medium over the top- put it on thick and then wiped it off. I just used my fingers- they were my palette and my brush.
The blade was painted with black gesso- when it dried I went over it with some purpley metallic rub on buffing wax and coated it with Glossy Accents.
I was trying to get it as close to the "real" one as I could.
I ended up going over the teeth with some whitish pearlescent nail polish before I was done. Then I wrapped it with sinew- the same type of material used on the actual knife.
